Last Fast Food Blog

Fast Food Nation has told interesting facts about how our fast food is produced, packaged, and made. To some people these facts may be disturbing to other people,  but I'm really not that disturbed by these facts. The jobs of a knocker, sticker, shackler, rumper, ect. are disturbing when their jobs are described  Pg 172. Those jobs sound horrific for the conditions they have to be in, but the food that the cows produce it is just so delicious that the gory surroundings of the meat packing plants don't bother me.

Because food at fast food restaurants are so delicious, I haven't and won't change my eating habits there. Whatever natural and artificial flavors they put in my burgers taste pretty good. Fast food restaurants are the major food contributors for today's society. Whenever I travel to Watertown 75% of the time, I'm going to stop at a fast food restaurant because I love their food.

The biggest problem our society will have with fast foo restaurants is obesity. People are going to fast food restaurants for food constantly, and not knowing how much they consume till they look at themselves in the mirror. People need to figure out that fast food restaurants do serve healthy food that will help out on obesity.

Fast Food 4

Slaughter houses are used for killing livestock for food. The word "slaughter" kind of tells everyone in the world that animals are being slaughtered. Slaughter is a very gruesome word, a person should catch on what is going on in slaughter houses.

My view on slaughter houses haven't really changed, because animals are being "slaughtered" not being gently killed. " Today some plants are killing up to 400 cattle an hour" Pg. 173 is very surprising to me, because the knives of the workers have to keep up with the worker killing the cattle. " We'll be walking through some blood" Pg. 169 there is a lot of problems with this picture. Walking through blood that is "ankle deep" Pg 169. Walking in ankle deep blood is just not what i pictured a slaughter house to be. Yes its a slaughter house killing 400 cows every hour, but why does there have to be ankle deep blood all over the building. At least keep the building floor clean enough that nobody has to walk through ankle deep blood.

" Some of the most dangerous jobs in meat packing today are the late-night cleaning crews." Pg. 177. Cleaning crews have to come in the middle of the night and clean the blood from every place in the factory. Some people might think it's easy because all of the machines are shut off. "The conveyor belts and machinery are still running" Pg. 177. The workers must maneuver their way around every machine in the factory to clean the blood from the machines. Workers must maneuver their way around sharp hooks swinging rapidly in circles. They also have to walk on the conveyor belts while they are moving, just like a treadmill. They only cleaning tool they use in a water hose, probably having chemicals in it to disinfect the blood and grease.   The clean up crew must be done cleaning before the employees of the slaughter house come for their shifts.

Slaughter houses are made for killing. People these days care to much about how the animal is treated. I myself care about animals, but this day and age beef is the food we live off of. Slaughter houses have changed rapidly from the past, but the same techniques are used. The speed has increased and will never change the way we slaughter our cattle. The way will never change.
